Full Time Public Defender - Perry County Website Background Image

Perry County is seeking a full time Public Defender. This position is responsible to mange and administer the County-wide legal program that protects the rights of individuals qualified for public defender representation.

 

Primary duties include:

  1. Represents clients at trials, preliminary hearings, motions hearings, and other court appearances for purposes of defending clients.
  2. Collects and reviews information of individuals seeking representation by the public defender and administers determination of eligibility.
  3. Performs legal research and formulates legal strategy to effectively represent criminal defendants.
  1. Receives and responds to complaints from clients and makes decisions on complaint resolutions.
  2. Responsible for the department budget and supervises expenditures.

 

Successful candidate MUST possess:

  1. Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
  2. A Juris Doctorate degree and licenses and admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
  3. Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Public Defender with significant courtroom experience relating to criminal defense.
  4. Valid PA driver’s license

 

 

Compensation includes a starting salary of $38.41/hour with consideration for relevant experience.  Perry County employment offers a comprehensive benefit package that includes generous paid leave, a county retirement plan, and health, vision, life and dental insurance after a 90-day probationary period.
