Perry County is seeking a full time Public Defender. This position is responsible to mange and administer the County-wide legal program that protects the rights of individuals qualified for public defender representation.
Primary duties include:
- Represents clients at trials, preliminary hearings, motions hearings, and other court appearances for purposes of defending clients.
- Collects and reviews information of individuals seeking representation by the public defender and administers determination of eligibility.
- Performs legal research and formulates legal strategy to effectively represent criminal defendants.
- Receives and responds to complaints from clients and makes decisions on complaint resolutions.
- Responsible for the department budget and supervises expenditures.
Successful candidate MUST possess:
- Strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
- A Juris Doctorate degree and licenses and admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Public Defender with significant courtroom experience relating to criminal defense.
- Valid PA driver’s license
Compensation includes a starting salary of $38.41/hour with consideration for relevant experience.
